Animatic of Storyboard

Here is an animation of the story board it shows what is happening and when.

Original Idea.

Final Idea

Puppet animation

Puppet Animation is a stop motion technique that involve puppet figure interacting with one another. The puppets are generally made using armature which enables then to be more stable and moveable. Puppetoon is a form of Puppet animation that is created by George Pal, this type is made by not moving the puppets but by using various puppets on the same character in different frames.

Pixillation

This Stop motion technique is created by live actors, that are used as frame by frame in an animated piece of film. This is often used for blending live actors with animation. Early known movies are El Hotel Electrico in 1908 and Jobard Cannot See The Women Working by Emile Cohl 1911. This technique has been used in films, TV shows and music videos.

Pin screen animation

Pin Screen Animation was first developed by Alexandre Alexeieff and Claire Parker. Pin Screen Animation works by a white screen that is perforated with thousands of pins, as a light shines on the pins they form shadows which are used in creating the animation. Each pin can be moved in and out of the board to form different shadows. It is the shadow that are the animation. Due to the cost of the PinScreen Device, there is digital Pin Screen animation where there are several computer programmes to create the affect of Pin Screen animation.

South Park

South Park is cut out animation, that had now been updated to CGI. I started of in 1992 and 1995 from two animation shorts, which then lead onto a TV series in August 1997. South Park is a black comedy thats not created for children. The masters behind this are; Trey Parker and Matt Stone. In 2007 Channel 4 voted South Park third- greatest cartoon of all time. They won the CableACE Award for the best animated series in 1997. They have also won the Award for Outstanding Animated Programme. They have also had many nominations throughout the years. I personally enjoy watching South Park more than any other animations for adults e.g Family Guy, American Dad etc... This may be due to the shock of the language that young boys say in the show and what they do in the show.

Finished Animation

I have finally finished my animation after doing the models, setting frames, video editing and sound editing. I added the Rocky theme tune as I believe it goes very well with the theme of the video how ever before I changed the storyboard my soundtrack was going to be a ukulele playing, but that wouldn't go very well with the new storyboard.

What went wrong with character 2

As I have said before in a previous blog I struggled a lot with character 2. Personally I think I set the bar too high on a first attempt at 3D animation, but I tried to create it and realised that it was too time consuming and I didn't have much time left. I tried two different methods of creating a human like figure one consisted of 3 images a side, front and back view of a woman's body. I found this technique on YouTube.

This is part one of the videos I watched.
The second technique consisted of a cube that your split and manipulate each line/ vertex in order to create a shape and then smooth it which should then look similar to a body if not keep manipulating until it does.

Second attempt:

The Polar Express

The Polar Express is based on the book by Chris Van Allsburg. It is a motion capture CGI and was produced by Castle Rock Entertainment, the visual affects were created a Sony Picture Imageworks. In 2006 it was listed in the Guinness world records book for the first all digital capture film.

Tin Toy

Tin Toy is one of the first cgi animated short to win an Oscar it was created by John Lasseter (Pixar) in 1988. I really like this animation as it shows what we can create using computer animation and we can exceed expectations. It is also a lot smoother and more 3 dimensional compared to other forms of animation.

Tin Toy is based on a one man band toy called Tinny, trying to escape from a baby.

Set designs

I have created a simple bedroom of what it may look like. I used the images to help me come up with ideas in the  bedroom.

Front view
I have also created a birds eye view of the set.

Bird eye view.
In maya:

Set

I have created a set that is based in a child's bedroom to make the teddy's more relevant. I started by collecting images of a desk and what could be on them.

Theses are items that I have considered in including into my set. I also looked at textures and wallpapers for the bedroom.

Character two changed

I had a lot of trouble in created my Hula girl in maya and time was running out so I felt that I should change my second character to make it more simple and to make sure I meet my deadline This was a pretty big change as I changed my storyboard to go along with it. I made my second character into another Teddy and thought it would be a better idea for them to battle each other in a fight.

Part 1

Part 2
This is my new storyboard which I personally believe is better than my original idea. I tried to not make it too complicated as I want to meet the deadline with a higher quality than quantity.
The way I am creating Teddy 2 is by duplicating the first Teddy and adding on a different fur texture to make them slightly different from one another.

Finished Storyboard

I created a really quick storyboard at the beginning in order to give me a quick understanding of movements in the set ect... But I did not include camera angles which is essential to a storyboard when created the film. So I recreated the storyboard:

Character two (Hula girl)

I started a little differently with this as I wanted to get a clear idea of a human like body. I collected images of a body from different views.

Front

Back
side
This gave me a clear idea of how my hula girls body should look.I created a front, back and side view of her.

Completing character one (Teddy)

After I completed the basic look of the Teddy I thought about textures and colours I could add on. I found images from google of fur textures once I saved these images I could insert them into maya as a texture.

Fur Texture I used
I added the fur texture to my teddy along with adding other colours for the eyes and nose which I used phong E to get highlights onto them which created a shiny look, I also inserted a different colour for the ears.

Character one (Teddy)

I started by drawing a front, back and side view to get a clear idea of what my character will look like.

I then started to research h ow to make a teddy in maya I found this:
Tutorials
I tried to use the instruction video but it wasn't very clear so I struggled in making it. I decided to use the images I collected to make my own. I started with the body of the bear.

This gave me an outline where I could add arms and a head. The next thing I went onto do was the arms the way I made the arms and body was with nurbs rather than the polygon shapes as I found it easier to manipulate them in nurbs. Once I finished manipulating the shapes I converted them to polygon shapes.

Once I had finished with the arms I started on the legs which I also used nurbs for.

Creating the teddy has helped me to improve my skills on manipulating objects.

When I completed the head I attached it all together to make up the Teddy, I parented everything to the body.
