Hansel and Gretel is a world wide known fairy tale, of German origin. The Brothers Grimm recorded and published the
story in 1812. The story may well have been based in the medieval time (1315-1321). This is the time where people resorted to desperate measures, some would abandon their children due to lack of food and money and others would resort to cannibalism.
There has been various adaptations of the story ranging from books, operas and films. Here are a few that I have come across:
- Opera Hansel und Gretel (1893) by Engelbert Humperdinck
- TV series adapted for BBC in 1937
- TV series directed by Tim Burton in 1982 for the Disney channel
Films;
- The story of 'Hansel and Gretel' Ray Harryhausen 1957
- Hansel and Gretel 1987
- Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters 2013
- Henjel Gwa Geuretel South korean horror film 2007 directed by Pil-Sung Yim
