Story idea - script two

Scene One

Hansel and Gretel are playing out together in their front garden [zoom out shot from the house to a close up of the children]. Gretel attempts to leave the garden, however Hansel stops her and shakes his head to communicate no. Gretel puts on crocodile tears [close up of Gretel's face]. Hansel give in to her. Hansel looks back at the house in regret knowing they are not allowed to go beyond the garden gate. Gretel enters the woods in excitement, Hansel closely follows her [Back shot of Hansel and Gretel entering the woods].

Scene Two

The woods are dark, Gretel is enjoying herself skipping along holding her teddy. Hansel stops her - he looks worried, they then look around and finds themselves lost [camera zooms out showing how small they are in comparison to the enormous trees]. They carry on walking in hope they come across something they recognise.

Scene Three

Hansel sees a clearing, he runs towards it in hope to be back home. It soon becomes clear that they are far from home. A huge house comes into sight where a strange old lady is tending to her garden. [over the shoulder shot looking at the big house] The old lady notices them. She looks friendly, smiles and waves them over. Reluctantly they go. She invites them inside by opening the door and waving them in [Hansel and Gretel look at each other in front of the open door - they look worried, the camera represents their eyes at this point]. The old lady hands out cookies once they get inside, they start to feel safe again.

Scene Four

The old lady make them dinner, which is soup and sit at the table together to have a ‘family meal’. Hansel points towards the window in an effort to express that they need to go home. The old lady nods her head to reassure the children. [camera is at the end of the table to get a full view, it follows Hansels hand when points at the window and zooms onto the old lady when she nods her head.]
Days pass - This is shown through crosses appearing on an empty calendar.

Scene Five

Hansel attempts to leave the house with Gretel through an open window in the kitchen as all the doors are kept locked. He climbs through it as Gretel looks worried beside him. Suddenly Hansel comes flying out of the window by an immense force back into the kitchen. [Shot of Hansel's face as he gets dragged back in]. He lands hard on the floor. The old lady is held above him looking incredibly angry. Hansel and Gretel are thrown into a cupboard as a form of punishment. The old lady goes and sits down looking upset and starts to read. A page of the book is visible, it reads; bad behaviour must not go unnoticed, they need to learn right from wrong this can be shown through a form of punishment [over the shoulder shot].
More days past - calendar shot.

Scene Six

The old lady and the children are sat quietly playing and reading. Sirens get louder in the background, the old lady gets worried and starts to panic. She runs for the back door in order to escape, not realising she has knocked a photo album off the bookshelf [As the camera pans down to the photo album, loud bangs are heard in the background]. A big gush of wind blows open the album and lands on a page showing a happily married couple and on the opposite page a baby scan with the words written underneath DOB - 13.05.01 and DOD - 13.05.01 suggesting that the old lady had a stillborn. [feet are visible in the background running across the scene, whilst the camera concentrates on the photo album allowing enough time for the audience to read the pages [the screams and banging is ongoing].
