So you should save your UV map by clicking polygons in the UV editor and then clicking UV snapshot once you have done that a window will pop up with the settings in save it to the images folder where your project is saved. So now you should have your UV map and your crate structure. Next you should find a crate texture.
This is what I will be using;
Hold down control and press T in order to translate the image. Move the image to one of the allocated squares on the UV snapshot then make a new layer and paste again. Do the same to this picture as the last one you have just done and do this until you have filled out the UV snapshot. After you have completed that merge the layers down so it becomes one layer and then save the picture as Crate Texture in the source images folder.
Now you have your crate colour texture we need to make a bump map for it. You do this by desaturating the picture in photoshop, then click on curves a small window will come up drag the line to its highest point in order to create plenty of white areas.
This is how it should sort of look;
Now it's adding it to your crate. Right click on your crate go all the way down to add new material. Select Lambert when the window pops up. On the right side of the screen you will see attributes editor click the checkered box where it says colour. Select file from the window. Click the file icon back in the attributes window and select the Crate Texture from the sourceimages folder. press number 6 on your object in order to see the texture.
Adjust the bump depth to suit you now you have your finished crate all you need to do is import it to maya.
