How To Make A Crate (part3)

You should have your finished crate from the first two blog posts. Now it is about importing it to Unity.
Click file on maya go down to export selection make sure you have your crate hightlighted, click the little box on the right hand side of the export selection. A window should pop up change the file type to FBX export leave everything else as it should be go down to edit preset and another window should pop up. Go down to embed media click the box to include it. Then click save preset. After that click export selection on the previous window.
This should pop up.

Save it to your scenes folder under Crate.

Now open up Unity (I am asuming you already have a terrain and other objects in) right click on standard assets in the project tab, click import new asset.

Find your file in scenes folder of your maya project make sure you select the FBX export and click import. All your assets should be imported including your texture. If you texture doesn't come up its okay we'll sort it.
Click on the crate you have just imported, go to the inspector window and click the generate colliders box.

Now if you do not have you texture go to the materials bit in the inspector window check to see if the import materials box is clicked, if that is not the problem change the Material naming to Model's name+ Models material and then change the material search to project wide. Click apply.

Now you can drag it onto your terrain and resize and mave to wherever you want.
